Dessert from Panama: Soup of Glory

Recipe of Soup of Glory

1 pound of plain cake

2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup rum

1 cup of milk with one teaspoon of lemon juice into it  (buttermilk)
1 cup of condensed milk (or ½ cup of milk, with 1/3 cup of sugar into it)
4 egg yolks
2 cups water
1 cup crushed nuts
2 teaspoons vanilla

You can cut the pound cake in squares or in little one bite pieces or prepare it as one whole cake.
It must be served in a deep serving dish, as it is very juicy.

In a pan mix the 2 cups of water and the 2 cups of sugar and the cinnamon and let it boil for seven minutes. Take it off the fire, add the rum.
Let it cool off a little and pour it over the cake (or cake squares).
Prepare a cream mixing all the other ingredients in a double boiler, and let it thicken.  Stir it in from time to time.  When it is thick pour if over the cake or squares with the cinnamon sauce.
Decorate it on top with the cup of crushed nuts and sprinkle some cinnamon on top if you wish.

This is a typical dessert on the weddings buffets, or in special parties.
