Food from Guatemala

Recipe of Fried Fritters

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups of flour
¼ teaspoon salt
4 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder
¼ cup of butter
cooking oil
¼ cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of grated orange grind
1 ½ cups of water

Procedure:

Put in a bowl the flour, the sugar, orange grind, salt and baking powder
In a pan mix the water and the butter bring it to a boil and when it boiled, put the fire off, and slowly mix it with the flour mixture.
Add the eggs, by one, beating the dough well.
Heat the oil in a frying pan, and make the dough into little balls (golf balls size) and dip them into the oil very carefully, and with the wooden spoon move it carefully so that it gets brown all around.
When brown, take them away and put them over kitchen paper towels to drain excess oil from them, and cover them with sugar.

If you want to make them to go with another meal dish, instead of sugar in the batter use grated cheese and don’t use grated orange grind either.  Don’t cover them with sugar after frying.
Those cheese fritters go very well with steak.
