Some Info about the Food of Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s cuisine is a very simple, healthy, colorful and tasty one.
Also, as it has wonderful lands for cattle, most dishes include beef, which can be served in many different ways.

Because it is a country where the many native cultures of Central and South America met, and where the influence of the Spanish conquerors was very strong and because the eastern coast was where the Africans were brought to mostly, it has a certainly very varied history and a great mixture of population.

Vegetables are always served with each meal, mostly squash, potatoes, beans, rice, onions.  In their soups you will always find corn, as their love for corn comes from their native origins.

Though their dishes are always very tasty, mostly they don’t like spicy food.  But they love to fry almost all they eat!  For breakfast you can find beans and rice, fried and mixed with onions.  This traditional dish is called Gallo Pinto and is a very popular one in the country.  Maybe it can be served for dinner also, with some extra components and some salad.  The recipes of the food from Costa Rica are not difficult at all to prepare.  That makes them all the most desirable to be done!

Desserts can be fruit maybe, and you will love them all.  They are delicious.  And just to the point of perfection.

Recipe of Costa Rican Rice


2 cups of rice
¼ cup of cooking oil
1 garlic clove
2 onions
2 potatoes
¼ teaspoon salt
1 sweet potato
4 cups of water


Cut the potatoes and the sweet potatoes in small squares.  Chop the onion and the garlic clove.  Put the oil in a pan, when it is hot, put all ingredients and let them fry until they are getting toasted.  Then add the water and let it boil for 5 minutes.  When the water is evaporated, cover the pan and let it stand there covered for 8 minutes, and serve it with some good portion of steak!
